School Colloquium——Singularities in general relativity

Abstract:

General relativity is a theory of spacetime geometry and gravity in which the evolution of the spacetime is governed by the celebrated Einstein equations. It is well-known that solutions to the Einstein equations could develop singularities, for instance inside black holes. In this talk, I will survey some mathematical results regarding the nature of singularities in general relativity.

 

Bio:

陆颖康,2012年于普林斯顿大学数学系毕业,曾于宾夕凡尼亚州大学和麻省理工学院当博士后,及后于剑桥大学任教。现于斯坦福大学任职副教授。研究方向包括广义相对论、偏微分方程和数学物理。
