Professor Liu Ruochuan Awarded 2024 Ramanujan Prize

On July 22, 2024, the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) and the International Mathematical Union (IMU) awarded the 2024 Ramanujan Prize to Liu Ruochuan of Peking University, for his fundamental contributions to p-adic Hodge theory, especially his foundational study of relative p-adic Hodge theory and his remarkable work on rigidity and the Riemann-Hilbert correspondence for p-adic local systems. The Ramanujan Prize award ceremony will take place later in 2024.

Liu Ruochuan is currently a Boya distinguished professor at Peking University and vice dean of the School of Mathematical Sciences. His research interests are arithmetic geometry and algebraic number theory, with a focus on p-adic aspects of number theory and arithmetic geometry, especially p-adic Hodge theory, p-adic automorphic forms and the p-adic Langlands program. He and his collaborators proposed a new computational method of topological cyclic homology in the cross study of arithmetic geometry and algebraic topology, which opened up a new research direction. His work has received the highest accolades from top mathematicians and played a major role in the field of p-adic Hodge theory. He has received a number of recognitions, including the Second Prize of National Natural Science Award, the China Youth Science and Technology Prize, the National Science Fund Award for Distinguished Young Scholars, the Tencent Xplorer Prize, and the New Cornerstone Investigator.

About the Ramanujan Prize

The Ramanujan Prize is awarded annually to young mathematicians from developing countries who is less than 45 years of age on 31 December of the year, and who has conducted outstanding research in mathematical sciences, in memory of the talented young mathematician Ramanujan. Previously, Professor Shi Yuguang and Professor Xu Chenyang of Peking University received the award in 2011 and 2016, respectively.
