On the morning of June 20, 2024, Xavier ANTOINE and and H é l è ne BERGES, Science and Technology Attachés of the Higher Education, Research, and Innovation Department of the French Embassy in China,along with four others, visited the School of Mathematical Sciences at Peking University and had discussions and exchanges with Peking University faculty in the first conference room of the Zhihua Building. Ten teachers, including SHU Lin, WANG Chao, XIANG Shengquan, LI Zhiqiang, YANG Wenyuan, SUN Xin, and LI Xinyi, from the School of Mathematical Sciences and the Beijing International Center for Mathematical Research, as well as ZHANG Lei and FAN Shaofeng, Deputy Director ofandAssistant to the Director of the Office of Scientific Research, participated in the exchange activity. The symposium was chaired by Professor DING Jian, Vice Dean of the School of Mathematical Sciences.
FAN introduced the basic information about Peking University and the progress of its international scientific and technological cooperation, shared representative achievements in promoting Sino-French scientific and technological cooperation and exchange, and looked forward to playing a more active role in further deepening Sino-French exchange and cooperation.
DING reviewed the historical evolution of the School of Mathematical Sciences at Peking University, introduced the development of Peking University Mathematics in terms of faculty, student training, and discipline construction, and shared Peking University Mathematics’ experience and practices in promoting Sino-French scientific and technological exchange and cooperation.
Xavier highly praised the excellent tradition of Sino-French scientific and technological cooperation, and appreciated the close exchanges between the mathematical communities of China and France, which have produced fruitful results. Xavier also introduced the French embassy’s sponsorship of exchanges and visits between Chinese and French researchers and young scholars through the implementation of the CAI Yuanpei Research Project and the Sino-French Research Partner Exchange Program. Xavier expressed great gratitude to Peking University for its warm reception. He pointed out that 2024 marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France, and looks forward to further strengthening cooperation and exchanges in fields such as mathematics, and promoting Sino-French scientific and technological innovation cooperation to a new level.
Subsequently, both sides engaged in lively discussions on further strengthening scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation, and reached consensus on expanding cooperation areas, enriching cooperation forms, and optimizing cooperation mechanisms
