Abtract: In this talk I will present the new method developed in joint work with Rowan Killip for proving optimal well-posedness for integrable PDE. I will first present this method in the context of the Korteweg-de Vries equation.  I will then discuss the need for further innovations in order to obtain optimal well-posedness results for the integrable nonlinear Schrodinger and the modified Korteweg-de Vries equations; this was achieved in joint work with Ben Harrop-Griffiths and Rowan Killip.
