Abstract: High throughput single cell sequencing technologies have been widely used in cancer research. Dr. Ruli Gao will talk about her studies in delineating tumor evolution with scDNAseq, tracing tumor cell developmental trajectory with scRNAseq, and simultaneous dissection of cell lineage and cell fate dynamics with the emerging single cell Nanopore RNA sequencing (scNanoRNAseq) technologies.
About the Speaker:
Ruli Gao, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics and a member of the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University. Dr. Gao obtained her bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology at Yangzhou University, master’s degree in Statistics and PhD in Genomics at University of Florida and then received postdoc training at MD Anderson Cancer Center working with Dr. Nicholas Navin. She had major contribution in developing and applying single cell sequencing methods to study tumor evolution. She developed the punctuated copy number evolution model in primary triple-negative breast cancer (Nature Genetics, 2016), the bi-mode chemoresistance evolution model (Cell, 2018), the high throughput nanogrid single nuclei RNA sequencing method (Nature Communications, 2017), the computational algorithm, COPYKAT for calculating single cell copy number and clonality from scRNA-seq data (Nature Biotechnology, 2021), the anaplastic transformation model in thyroid cancer (JCI, 2023) and the high through single cell long-read transcriptome sequencing data analysis tool, scNanoGPS (BioRxiv, 2023). Moving forward, the Gao Lab at Northwestern University is focusing on studying tumor evolution and therapeutic resistance with single cell long-read sequencing approaches.
