计算与应用数学拔尖博士生系列论坛——A Brief Introduction to Nucleation in Cloud Seeding and Phase Field Crystal Model

Abstract: Water is one of the most basic resources on earth sustaining human life. The

insufficient of water prompted scientists and engineers to explore the possibility of

augmenting water supplies by means of cloud seeding. Cloud seeding is a form of

weather modification, a way of changing the amount or type of precipitation that

falls from clouds, by dispersing substances into the air that serve as cloud condensation

or ice nuclei, such as dry ice and silver iodide (AgI). Some numerical simulation on

the surface of AgI crystal were made by molecular dynamics, which was limited by the

time and length scales. Now we want to use a continuity model (phase field crystal) to

simulate and explore the nucleation in the process of cloud seeding.
